The truth about HONEY

Why keep bees? My husband, Greg, is our primary beekeeper!
Bees are incredibly important to our life on earth. If the bee were to disappear, the world would be in jeopardy. Crops rely on the heavy pollination of the honey bee.

The value of the honey bee cannot be over-stressed. Raw honey is the purest form of raw food available in nature. It contains everything needed to sustain life, including water ...no other food can do that.

Honey is full of amino acids and antioxidants...some antioxidants are exclusive to honey. It is high in energy, nutrients, and healing properties. (contains more bacterial killing properties than peroxide does)

Raw honey has been used for centuries in healing burns, wounds, stomach ailments, and more. I put it on burns, and it actually helps to reduce scarring.

Honey is also awesome at moisturizing your skin. It adds a little lathering to soaps, but mostly it feeds high nutrients and skin loving moisture into my soap bars.

I use my honey raw...meaning we do not pasteurize it. Pastuerization heats the honey to keep it in a liquifides state (raw honey crystalizes) and is said to kill bacteria in the honey. However, beekeepers know that there is no need to heat honey to kill bacteria...because honey is the ost naturally clean food available on earth.

In fact, heating honey destroys all of its value. Amino acids and antioxidants are cooked away, healing benefits are lost, and moisture content is heated away. Pastuerized honey has been highly tampered with and is no longer what nature made it to be. Honey from the store is nothing more than sweet sugary syrup.

If you are looking for the real benefits that honey can provide you with, look for it in it s raw form only. If a soaper claims to use honey in their soaps....find out if it was raw honey or store bought honey. Know what you are buying, because if not, you are not doing anything special for your skin, like you think you are.

Beware, honey comes in many artificial forms: (artificial meaning not straight from bees and left untouched)

powdered (how can this be good?)

clover honey ...man made

pastuerized

We do not believe in tampering with our honey. We collect it, filter it, and then bottle it. Period.

It has exactly what nature intended it to have. It's whole, pure and healthy. I can not stress enough to know what you are buying when a soaper offers "honey" in their products....because it will do you no good unless it is raw.

A bit about my goat, Cookie

Today is Sunday. It has been a quiet day so far. We actually got to sleep in for a bit. Then I had to get out to the barn and clean stalls and get my horses outside. My poor goat though....she must be feeling lonely because she won'tstop following me around. I think she is more anxious for spring than I am. She gets really cold and shivers all day. poor thing.

This is Cookie. She is a saanen/nubian cross dairy goat. She is 4 years old, and I just got her last summer. She became bonded to me very quickly. Very smart, these goats are large and love company. If she is feeling lonely, she comes up to the house to look through the windows until she spots me, then stands out there calling me to come outside with her...lol. She gets free reign of the yard, until the gardens come back. Then she has a fenced in area.
This picture was taken the day after I got her. She was very thin and her hooves in need of trimming, very badly. She is now a fat and happy goat with a beatiufl thick coat and healthy hooves. ...and very spoiled. And we name her appropriately...for she loves cookies and will practicaly knock you down to get some....and let me tell you, at about 135 pounds, knocking you down is not difficult for her.
Cookie provides all the milk for my goat milk soaps. Her milk is sweet. I need to have her bred soon as she iscurrently dry, so all my milk is in the freezer. Once she kids, I'll have milk again and the kid will be sold when it turns 8 weeks. (I'd love to keep it, but too many goats becomes very hard work.)
Cookie is a very sweet goat, nd became a part of our family very quickly and easily. She is a lot of fun to have around. If you are interested in owning a goat, I highly recommend the saanen breed.

Crazy Week

It has been a crazy week, what with the kids home from school all week long. I don't think that they've actually stopped moving once yet....they are seriously on hyper drive!

We just had a little movie night together, so it was nice having Greg, me and the boys all snuggled up on the couch .... and relatively quiet and still. ...hey, it's as close as we're going to get.

Oh! and on a good note...one of my art pieces sold at the art gallery!! Woohoo!! I got a check in the mail!! oh yes!! oh yes!! :D ... happy dance....art does not sell very easily.

busy day of soaping

Yesterday was a busy day of soaping! I finally made my shampoo bars that I have been dying to do!!

They are curing for 3 weeks...then I will be able to add the herbal infused waters and turn them into liquid shampoo....can't wait to see how it does in my hair!!

I also did some honey and beeswax soap....mmmmm I love that!!

Today has not been so exciting....chatted on Etsy, and got a sale...yay! But also had to clean the kitchen....less yay ..... and help my 7 yr old son who got a puff of dust in his eye from helping to fill the pellet stove....so I had to wrestle him for 5 minutes to keep his eye open under running water.... even less yay. But he is fine now.

can't wait to see what the rest of the day brings....I hear it is supposed to snow. ...hmm, seems like my yays keep declining.
